One of our main focus during my fashion study in Vienna was all about textiltechnology. The science of materials in relation to fashion design. It's all about finding out what kind of fabric is in front of you when you do not have a product description or specification by hand.

During my time in China, as I was booked for a work and travel trip, I experienced at the fabirc market in Guangzhou, how important the knowledge of textiletechnolgy really was. It was vital to find the right textiles for specific clothing as the locals are not much of a help either can you count on their expertise. Another example to mention is: You can't go for 100% synthetic chemical fibres if you don't want your customers to sweat like crazy and obviously you can't use wool textures for a summer-dress.

You can not count only by a fabric's look, but its composition. Every Fibre has it's own features. Sometimes you can only tell if you decided to really burn the fabric in front of you, in order to find out what specific composition its made off. The smell of a fibre can speak volumes. In order to give customers in fashion business the most profession advice in terms of fibres and fabric-choices, it is essential to developt my knowlege about textiletechnology.
